Phodnichi Poli Recipe (Chapati Upma)

Ingredients

  • Leftover chapati – 5-6
  • Onion – 1 (finely chopped)
  • Frozen green peas – 1/3 cup
  • some raw peanuts
  • Green chilies – 2-3 (finely chopped)
  • Curry leaves – 2 strands
  • Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
  • Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
  • Cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp
  • Pinch of asafoetida
  • Sugar – 1 tsp
  • Lemon juice – 1 tbsp
  • Oil – 1 and 1/2 tbsp
  • Salt to taste

Procedure

1. Break the chapatis into small pieces and keep it aside.

2. Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, pinch of asafoetida and curry leaves. Let them crackle. Add raw peanuts and saute till they turn slight brown in color. Make sure you don’t burn them.

3. Add chopped onion and saute till translucent. Add green peas, turmeric powder and salt to taste. Cook till green peas turn tender.

4. Add chapati, sugar and lime juice. Sprinkle little water if required and mix well. Cook covered for 1-2 minutes.

5. Switch off the heat and serve hot.
